The fungal kingdom has been key to the investigation of the role and the biogenesis of small RNAs. Trichoderma atroviride is a filamentous fungus that in response to injury initiates the regeneration of damaged hyphae and conidia formation. We have determined that RNAi is involved in the regulation of these processes. In my PhD work I am interested in determining both the mechanism of regulation by small RNAs as well as the cellular processes regulated after the mycelium is damaged in T. atroviride, using genetic engineering tools, analyzing mRNA and sRNA-seq data.
